The wonderful fresh scented smell of rain after a hot spell ... running thru the puddles, splashing merrily. Or, when the fire department would open the fire hydrants to help cool us off.
Watching the birds gather twigs & bits to build their nests. Looking for those newly hatched baby birds.
Selling lemonade or kool-aid to the passersby.
I don't know how many of you picked berries in the summer, but we 5 kids did. Strawberries & raspberries. Packing our peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, riding out into the country on the bus early in the dewy morns, working for hours on end in that endless summer heat. Snitching a berry when the boss wasn't looking. How thrilled we were at the end of each season to turn our 'tickets' in for that hard earned money.
Awww! for the good old days ... just memories!

I treasure those moments & precious memories of a simpler time & life.
Oh yes ! I picked strawberries to earn money for my school clothes and yes, I remember so many of the things you have written of.Love seemed so simple and so sweet, and indeed it really is.Some things never change, and true love does not, ever.
ReplyDeleteThose were the days..... We couldn't wait to grow up & now I wish I was still a child!!
ReplyDeleteHave a Great Day!

Hi Marydon! Just stopping by to say hi. This is lovely...I love summer!
ReplyDeleteDifferent parts of the country, yet some of the same memories. It really is a small world, isn't it?

Sweet memories! We were blackberry pickin' younguns:) Have a blessed day dear Marydon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for triggering sweet childhood memories!
You always bring back the best memories!! And glad Harold liked my Fort Mott reference! Very interesting place! :):):):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely reminder of summer days!! I used to love sitting in the grass looking for those four leaf clovers!
ReplyDeleteYou brought back such wonderful memories. I remember the final days of the school year when the windows were open....hearing the sound of the lawn mower buzzing and the smells of the freshly cut grass.
ReplyDeleteI also used to pick wild strawberries from a patch behind our house when I was a girl. Just enough to top our cereal but sooo good!
I don't recall picking berries as a child - but I did do that with my children - loved it. I found picking blueberries a wonderful, meditative time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying the savoring summer moments as much as possible! Hope you have a great week!
Kathy
Reading your post I became a young girl again in the 50's! I did all those things. The summer seemed so long back then. Things were so much slower. I remember searching though the grass for hours to find a 4 leaf clover. Ahhhh the good ole days. Thanks for the trip in the time machine back to the good ole days!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sherry
Ah yes. When I lived in Germany & Georgia my kids and I would pick tons of berries.
ReplyDeleteHere I had to go to the market for my basket of so so berries.
Oh yes, I do remember summers like that. We're having one something like that right now.
ReplyDeleteOh, Marydon, I am joining you in frustration and sadness for the loss of all your impatiens and other plants. Oh what a too hot summer with no rain it's been for too many. Here's to a better August!
Such good memories! Even the heat didn't bother us then!!!!

We sold Koolaid...what we didn't drink! heehee! And my kids picked blackberries and sold them! We still hear the story of my son that took a little rest from picking and a snake crawled across him! Guess that woke him up! ♥
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and days at the beach too!! Thanks so much for your super-sweet comment, Marydon!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Cindy
I love these sweet thoughts of summer, Marydon! I re-experience a lot of this with my grandkids and love every minute of it. Every season has its blessings, but I love summer so much!
ReplyDeleteWas it this hot when we were kids? Why didn't we care?? Life was simple way back when...I miss that!
ReplyDeleteSuper duper memories!
ReplyDeleteDee
I remember doing all that you mentioned during the Summer months:-) As for berries, we would pick the wild blueberries that grow all around here and mom would make us pies and pancakes with them...now my mouth is watering! lol We would also pick some baskets full to sell when we were older. So many wonderful memories:-) xoxo
ReplyDeleteYes, those are all great memories, aren't they? I lived in an old house with 2 greenhouses and plenty of land for gardening. One of my favorite things to do in the summer was to water the flowers and pick the harvest. My dad and I would pick strawberries, but my entire family would pick some type of produce from our garden.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I miss those days now. Hope you have enjoyed your summer regardless!
Oh- I do remember those things. And I used to love to go out into the high grass in the farm fields and make a "nest" that couldn't be seen from the house but the ground was all flattened down there and it make a great hiding spot.
ReplyDeleteAnd..I often took a book and an apple and sat in a tree reading and would "spy" on my brother.
Thanks for the great memories- xo Diana
Sweet, sweet memories......Oh yes I remember too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing them back.

Thanks for the wonderful memories Marydon. We picked backberries and scratched for a week with those chiggers. There six of us and we always found something to do in the summer. It seems today kids get bored so easy. Ihate to say it but they don't know how to be creative. Something as simple as laying on the grass and watching clouds like you said was so entertaining.. Thanks for the reminder...Susie
ReplyDeleteBeing of OLDEN age, I have tons of memories, too....what a great thing to post about. Guess I'd better get my MEMORY working so I can do a blog post. Thanks for the inspiration....
ReplyDeletehugs, bj
I never picked strawberries, but oh I had so much fun in the summer, I don't think the kids now have the freedom or fun we had....Ah, the good old days
ReplyDeleteCarol
Hi Marydon! Now I just have to giggle. Seeing your little naked LOVE IS couple, I thought - there they are lying in the grass, naked and there's bugs in that grass! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Summer's really wonderful and filled with great memories. I always think that people are really mellow and in high spirits during the summer. Had a great time reading this.
ReplyDeleteWe would be gone all day on our bikes in the summer, we had so much fun. I wish it could be more like that now for my daughter. We didn't pick berries for a job, but my friend and I would go pick wild blackberries and my mom would make us pie or cobbler.
ReplyDeleteWonderful summer memories, Marydon. I never picked berries for money, but I remember picking a lot of them from our garden patch. Hope you are enjoying your day! :)
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! I really took me back. And who says we can't do all of these things now. Well, maybe when the forecasted high isn't 112 I'll go out and do some of these things!
ReplyDeleteI miss those two! I loved the look on Fathers face.
