A true albino hummingbird, one that has white feathers & pink eyes, feet & bill; is
extremely rare. Only a few true albino
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have been reported.
Albinism is a genetic condition that results in a lack of pigmentation in the skin, hair, scales or feathers of an animal. Typically an albino creature has blood-red eyes, which adds to its odd, otherwordly appearance.
It's a relatively rare condition, and photographing such an quick-moving example of it as this albino hummingbird is a rare feat indeed. (Animal Planet)

ReplyDeleteI have never seen (or heard of one). Wow-Amazing. We had albino squirrels in our tree when we lived in one of our houses. There were two of them..which we were told was REALLY rare. I guess there are albinos in every speicies in nature. GREAT photos- xo Diana

ReplyDeleteI have never heard of such a thing as an albino hummingbird. That is sooo neat and how fortunately to get a picture. They must really spectacular when they fly amongst the coloured hummingbirds.
Thinking....they wouldn't be very good camaflauge so hopefully they are very aware of their surroundings.

I have lots of hummingbirds in our garden, but have never seen an albino. Beautiful and I love the one with the red rose.
