A VERY IMPORTANT PLEA!
Hi Marydon,
There is an article online about Jack (my maternal 1st cousin) at www.mdsbeacon.com.
Just put his name, Jack Grubb, in the search box. Unfortunately, the donor referred to in the
article, has backed out, like I said. Jack and BJ just came back from
Washington, DC, where they met with their congressfolks to talk about
this illness. This is really a clock-ticking-down situation. He will die from this, plain and simple.
Thank you for your interest, Marydon. I've campaigned to get family members young enough to sign up on "BetheMatch", (have to be under 6o), and several have come forward to get on the register, but again, as I said, no matches.
Love you,
Melody (your cousin)
Jack Grubb and his wife BJ were enjoying life as retirees in Etna, California, when they found out about Jack’s myelodysplastic syndrome diagnosis in 2009 after an annual physical exam. He was 67 years old at the time and felt very fit.
“My doctor noticed that my blood counts were low,” explained Jack. “He decided we needed to see a specialist in Medford, Oregon.”
The specialist performed a bone marrow biopsy right away and informed Jack that he had myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with refractory anemia (low red blood cell counts that do not respond to treatment) and excess blasts (immature bone marrow cells). The blast count was 10 percent at the time, and Jack was on his way to developing acute myeloid leukemia......
*** I implore you each to pass this information on ... maybe it won't help Jack but it may help another in desperate medical need.
My prayers for your cousin and all the family.
ReplyDeleteYou can count on my prayers! Hugs and prayers!!!
ReplyDeleteMy MIL has MDS. She fell on Thursday, one month to the day that her husband passed away. She landed on her face, and she looks so terribly bruised! My husband was already on his way to New Orleans to see her, and he is there with her right now. We are all still in a state of shock about my FIL because he died in his sleep and was not sick. My MIL is so sick now. I will visit the website, Marydon. Prayers for your cousin!
ReplyDeleteI to pray for him, his wife, his family and all of you. He needs a stem cell transplant or something? Is this what Robin Robins has?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry.
Sandie
I will put your family on my prayer list right now. It is so hard when our loved ones are unwell. Bless you for putting this info out there in hopes that it will help others. xo
ReplyDeleteSending prayers!
ReplyDeleteI will go read about his condition. I have never heard of it. It must be rare for his doctor to send him to another state for treatment. I will pray for him and his family.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Angela
Oh Marydon, Jack is in my prayers, just when he's supposed to be having the best time of his life...POOP! I hate to hear that someone backed out!

Saying a prayer. I think this is what Robin Roberts (of Good Morning America) has, she is soon to have a transplant from her sister. I know she has brought much attention to the disease and has increased the number of people signing up.
ReplyDeleteLove all the new look to your blog since last I visited. I will be praying for your cousin. Thanks for your visit and kind comments! I have extreme exhaustion and my osteoarthritis in my thumbs and knuckles have really given me grief. Had 2 shots of Cortisone in the left thumb join this morning, hope it helps. Praying for everyone who needs the Lord's healing. luvu
ReplyDeleteOh this is sad. Even though we all have to go at some time, not many of us are given a sentence. I look forward to going to Heaven. When you read of people who have out of the body experiences and never want to return to earth it gives you a strength. God Bless you cousin and her hubby and keep them in His care.x
ReplyDeleteOh My Dear Sis... Holding Jack and the family in prayer. We are asking for the prayers to be heard and answers to be given.
ReplyDeleteWe know there is another donor out there somewhere. Many hugs and so much love. Your lil sis, Sherry
I will remember him in my prayers. God is good!
