~ Poignant ~ Love Is... Memory Lane
Do you remember 'back in the day' when Mother & Grandmother would take down those beautiful lace curtains, wash them in the old wringer washer & put them on those stretchers to dry? How the stretchers had those sharp 'nails' to hook them over? All the pricks you got stretching them? But, oh, how pretty they looked when rehung?
I remember Mother helping G'ma Maggie twice a year ... spring & fall ... take them down, wash & then rehang them. What a day of work that was. G'ma Maggie would have homemade soup simmering on the stove ... fresh baked bread in the oven ... luscious fresh churned butter & jams sitting on the counter awaiting that warm bread. Ahhhh! the armoa still filters thru my mind. It was so worth the 'fooling around' while they did their work ... knowing we would reap the fruits of G'ma's kitchen when they were done.

~~A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they are eating breakfast,
The young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.
"That laundry is not very clean", she said..
"She doesn't know how to wash correctly.
... Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."
Her husband looked on, but remained silent.
Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry,
The young woman would make the same comments.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a
Nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:
"Look, she has learned how to wash correctly.
I wonder who taught her this."
The husband said, "I got up early this morning and
Cleaned our windows."
And so it is with life. What we see when watching others
Depends on the purity of the window through which we look~~

~ Baptismal Gown & Birthday Gift Celebration ~
This past weekend we celebrated our sons 50th birthday.
Emery & Cathelene
Emery is so old that the cake wouldn't hold all those candles ... love you son!
This week is also Cathelene's birthday. Love you, sweetie.
And, this month was also their 15th wedding anniversary ...
We presented to them the baptismal gown that my G'ma Maggie made as the caretakers of this 100+ year old treasure.
~~~ Mr. Bill Stitely from The Museum Shop in Frederick, Md., did one fabulous creation in protecting G'ma Maggie's gown. He stitched it gently with a cotton thread to protect the fabric from 'injury'. He assured us that should Cat & Emery decide to baptize their grandchildren, it can be removed & used. The picture will hang on the wall directly behind the 4 o us, beneath Ansel Emery & Tatiana Isabelle's pictures. Thank you Mr. Stitley, we love it. ~~~
To you in our vicinity ~ we highly recommend this shop. It was very reasonable, the care was excellent, the finished framing is excellent.
Lots of high school friends came from near & far to join Emery in this event.
And we had oodles of kid-lings & family there. It was a long fabulous night of celebrating.
~ Oh, My! You Are Over The Hill?, My Son!! ~
One upon a time there was a very special wee prince that God handpicked & blessed us with in 1962.
(H. Emery's 1st birthday)
I cannot tell you the joy & delight of H. Emery's arrival in the early dawn ... tears flowed.
Then I called my husband to tell him (in Alaska) that his son had arrived.
I shall never forget, & still get emotional thinking of the night, that my husband arrived home to meet his 6 week old son. He knelt down beside the rocking cradle & whispered 'my son', as he gently touched his sleeping son.
(your first violin)
You have given us the greatest moments of joys, laughter, a few tears & hair pulling ... as we walked thru so many stages of life with you, Emery.
(14th birthday gift from G'ma Mary)
We are full of pride in the man, father, husband & son you are. You have given us our precious loved Ansel Emery & Tatiana Isabelle through your love in our dilove, Cathelene. How much more blessed can we be!
(16th birthday)
Happy 50th Birthday to our wonderful loved son ... thank you for bringing us so much love.
(18 yrs. old)
PS ~ It is hard to believe you are older than us now ... chuckle!!
~ A Lunar Miracle ~
This week we
will be celebrating the 43rd anniversary of the Apollo 11 Landing Man
on the Moon. For those of us living at
the time, we all remember that Sunday afternoon on July 20th, 1969 watching
on TV. What a miracle that was. But there was another miracle taking place in
the lunar module that many of us were not aware of.
We remember
Neil Armstrong’s famous words, “One small step for man, One giant leap for mankind.”
But who remembers Astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s words?
Mission
Control in Houston had scheduled a quiet time for the 2-man crew to rest after the
lunar module landed to prepare for their extra-vehicular activities on the moon’s
surface. During these hours Aldrin carried out his own plan. With a wafer of
bread and a small amount of wine from a sealed plastic container, he privately
celebrated the Lord’s Supper – on the moon.
From a
handwritten 3x5 card, Aldrin repeated the words of Jesus, “I am the vine; you
are the branches. Whoever remains in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit;
for you can do nothing without me.” Astronaut Aldrin then partook of the wafer
and the wine . . . paused for a moment, and then offered a private prayer for
the task at hand and the opportunity he had been given. Neil Armstrong, the
only human witness, watched respectfully.
Reflecting on
his communion observance on the moon, Aldrin explained, “I could think of no
better way to acknowledge the enormity of the Apollo 11 experience than by
giving thanks to God.”
Psalm 139:6-12 This is too glorious,
too wonderful to believe! I can never be
lost to your Spirit! I can never get away from my God! If I go up to heaven,
you are there; if I go down to the place of the death, you are there. If I ride the morning winds to the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me, your strength will support me. If I try to hide in the darkness, the night becomes
light around me. For even darkness cannot
hide from God; to you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are both alike to you.
So today at
10:59, Lord we give You thanks for giving us Your Body and Your Blood so that
we can take these elements in remembrance of You. Thank You for our salvation. We give thanks for allowing us to be witnesses to
the many miracles that have taken place in this world. We pray that we may be
used by You today for Your heavenly purpose to bring about miracles for
others. Amen.
Have a Miracle Day.
Tim
Victory is
Ours Already!
(Thank you for this wonderful share, Timothy)
~ Baptismal Gown Retired, A Special Gift ~
This exquisite baptismal gown was created by my grandmother Maggie Carty Neu in 1910 prior to my Mother’s birth, her first born child, in 1911. All 3 of G’ma Maggie’s children wore this gown at their baptisms at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Napavine, WA. I am not sure if her 4th child, a son who died after birth, wore the gown.
I wish you could see the intricate details of the stitching on this delicate soft sweet fabric. The neckline & sleeve cuffs have this tiny, fine & intricate lace trim. The yoke has cutout embroidery work … the little flowers are connected with this rope chain stitching. The layered pleating on the gown skirt has the same delicate sweet lace adorning the top. The undergown is trimmed in a scalloped eyelet type design at the skirt bottom. The third underskirt is like a heavy flannel to keep the baby warm & is very plain. The fourth gown is a half gown so that when they changed the baby it would keep the other gowns clean from soiling.
As a young girl this gown became very precious to me. I used to love to just hold it & feel it. As a teenager I made it very clear that this was the only thing I ever wanted in my life … nothing else ever mattered to me.
I loved my G’ma Maggie so much. I can remember her hugs & Irish jigs on the kitchen floor entertaining us kids … her black tea freshly brewed aroma filtering thru the house. The quilts on her quilt stretcher in the sun porch, as she created hand stitched beauties. That freshly baked bread aroma filtering thru the house, greeting us at the front door. This gown is a part of her, she created it with her own hands, I loved it with all my heart.
When my first child, Emery, was born I was given the privilege by my Mother, Mary Caroline, to have my son baptized in this elegant gown, then my Michael Erin, Caroline Leighanne & Sean Ean. None of Mother’s other grandchildren were baptized in it. I asked Mother if I could have this gown since I was the only one who had a deep love & sentiment for it. When Mother & I closed down her brother Bill’s estate & the family home, Mother gave me the gown as permanent caretaker. All I could do was sit & hold it & cry from such great joy & love.
It has been my privilege to have all 3 of our grandchildren (Joshua, Ansel & Tatiana) baptized in this exquisite gown, which I am retiring as it has become so terribly fragile. I couldn’t bear anything to happen to it.
Thank you, Mother & G'ma Maggie, for treasured memories.
Picture order ~ (I wish I had pictures of my 4 children wearing this precious gown, but alas, they are missing.)
Joshua Ryan Carty Ford b. 4-1--1991 St. Peter's Catholic Church, Libertytown, MD.
Cathelene & Ansel Emery Laguerre Ford b. 4-16-2001 Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Kensington, MD
b. 12-29-2003 Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Kensington, MD
The intricacy is delicate beautiful stitches of love.
We had this gown museum framed, tacked with nylon thread should our son Emery & dilove Cathelene ever wish to remove it for their gr-kid-lings to wear, they may remove it to do so.
We are presenting this to our son & dilove for both of their July birthdays & 15th wedding anniversary ... I know they will care for it with love, as I have. Love you both to the heavens & back ... Mother & Dad.
Happy Anniversary Emery & Cat.
