After playing outdoors & having our tea party (earlier post) ...
Tatiana came up to me & said 'Mimi, can you sew?' How precious ... I told her that my Mother was a beautiful seamstress but she 'fired me'. Then told her the story of my trying to make a maternity smock & when Mother saw it she screamed 'get the ripper'!!! No, sweetie, I cannot sew. Then I wondered why ...
she said she wanted to sew a blanket for her 'dog' (not real) & for herself.
Well, having over 3,600 vintage feedsacks in our business stash I had to think ... where are some scraps. I told her to wait a minute ... I finally found some about 6" by 2" wide. I then went & got Mother's needles & thread that I kept when she joined Jesus, grabbed my scissors & we were off. Now I do know how to do a knot & straight stitch ...
I ran the first stitch thru the fabric explaining how she must keep her stitches very uniform & how to stay away from the edge, keeping her line straight. Then I passed on to my kid-ling her great-g'ma Mary's needle. Look how proud she is & let me tell you her stitches are VERY straight & BEAUTIFULLY uniform. I was stunned ... she is only just 9 yrs. old. Proud, oh, mercy! I could hear Mother patting her gr-kid-ling proudly, 'job well done, Tatiana'.
And, then she was off to continue creating. She did about 12 rows, without hesitation. When we took her back home, even her Mother, Cathelene, was stunned at the beautiful workmanship. We will be pursuing this talent henceforth.
I asked Tatiana if there were any other things she would like to do when she comes home again ... make perfume, she stated. Now this I will have to look into. As a child I so remember creating rose petal perfume but have no idea how we did this ... anyone out there know how to do this?
Tatiana, you never cease to amaze me with your creative talents ... we are very proud of you, sweetie. Love you to the moon .....

That is just AWESOME!!! I love that she wants to be creative!!! Can't wait to see it all finished!!
ReplyDeleteSweet time spent together creating memories:) Beautiful Granddaughter! Enjoy your day my friend, hope you are having a gorgeous GOOD MORNING! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteYears ago, when my girls were small, I said to my mother-in-law, "Lou and I aren't stupid people, but the girls are so intelligent and excel in school, I wonder where that came from?" Without missing a beat she said, "It skips a generation." That must be true. Your Tatiana proves it.
ReplyDeleteOh...how precious is this...she is adorable...and you gave her a good start!!
ReplyDeleteMarydon, Your granddaughter may grow to love sewing. We really need to teach our kids and g.kids things that will carry them thru this life. Smiles, xo, Susie
ReplyDeleteWell, look at her. A chip off of your mother's block for sure.
ReplyDeleteIn here trying to get caught up and I know I haven't been very good at getting around lately. Been playing outside and doing housework too much.
Loved the grandson's feeder and very mature to be using power tools at that age. Bravo.
I did want to say that you did a wonderful thing for Angel- missed that post, but read over at Nezzy's about what you had done and the outcome of it all. God bless you for making a difference in that child's life. You rock!
I have heard that things like that often skip a generation. It seems to have happened here....I have two daughters who can barely thread a needle but my soon-to-be-8-years-old granddaughter seems not only to be interested in sewing but has done very well at it when working with me here. It's such fun to see them sparkle when they create something, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteShe is very beautiful and very talented.
ReplyDeleteNow girl I think you can sew - I have a purse with sunflowers you made - reversible - lol.
Any way you girls both did a great job.

Good Morning Sweet Sis...
ReplyDeleteOh how fun is this share. I love seeing Tatiana, and look at her go. What a beautiful blanket she is making. Such a wonderful memory for the two of you, and I know Dear Momma was just smiling away as she watched her needle come out from storage and once again be put to work.
She is growing tooooo fast. Love that look on her face, that look of strict concentration. She means serious business.
Thanks for sharing sweetie. Have a glorious day. Many hugs and much love, your lil Sis, Sherry
This is just awesome that she picked up sewing so quickly. Sewing by hand was just something we learned as children and I am amazed that my own daughters can't even thread a needle. I should have taught them...now they bring everything to me!!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet story, Marydon! Tatiana is just beautiful. :)
XO,
Jane
this is fun to see! good for all of you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bright an creative child! She's going to be the designer in the family, I'll bet.
ReplyDeleteHow neat! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Dear Marydon
ReplyDeleteOh she has done a great JOB!
Perfume, hmmmm. You know, years ago I had a book on how to make perfume from my roses.. Have no idea what happened to the book or I would send it... I never gave it a try, but I know there are books out there.. Check the bookstore.
Do you think she would like to make soap? They have some really nice kits at Michaels you could pick up.. Just a thought, in the event you change your mind about the perfume.
Thank you so much for wandering over and saying hi to Coco.
So happy she gave you a smile!
Love to you my friend
Penny
Awe that is sweet Marydon. She is beautiful and what fun for her learning to sew and doing a good job of it too. Sweet Tatiana.
ReplyDeleteShe did a great job; well done, Marydon!
ReplyDeleteWell done!! Fun times :)
ReplyDelete*hugs*deb
What a great thing you are encouraging there. Hand sewing is a real talent...something she will love all her life probably.
ReplyDeleteMy 9 yr old gd wanted a sewing machine for Christmas so she got a basic little machine. She just loves it and I am signing her up for children's sewing lessons.
xo Diana ps...is Sherry not posting anymore at all?
It seems that sewing is becoming somewhat of a lost art. So good that Tatiana is interested and wonderful that you taught her some basics. Great memories too!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a great Grandma! Making perfume sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
deb
Oh honey what a sweet post. I so enjoyed my visit by here tonight.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your little girl is growing up and is quite creative like her precious grandmother.
I have missed you sweet friend. Hope your better and we can visit soon
Love ya
Maggie
Thanks for your visit to my site! I look forward to getting acquainted!
ReplyDeleteTammy
Oh what a lovely child.
ReplyDeleteHI Marydon! Oh, how wonderful to see Tatiana pick up the needle and thread and go to town! She's such a pretty young lady and she just may become the quilter of the family! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi, Marydon: So great to see your beautiful Tatiana growing up to be so creative! I was a sewing disaster myself -- and have always been sorry I didn't learn how to sew or knit. Oh, well! It's nice to see the interest in these practical arts alive and well in the younger generation!
ReplyDeleteTatiana is an amazing young lady. And so pretty! I think it is sweet that you are encouraging her creativity.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend!
xo,
RJ
Oh how sweet to share things of your mother's and to do something with her that she will always remember. I can't sew a stitch...I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteI can remember making myself outfits when I was in 7th grade & up. I loved it. I made my kids their clothes & even tackled a few shirts for DH back in the day. I don't sew anymore as it just kills my back to bend over a table to pin & cut.
ReplyDeleteThis little girl is going to be a sensational seamstress some day. She has the love of it!!
Have a Great Weekend!!
Marilyn
What a sweet moment and future memory. Thanks for stopping by. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh what a blessing you are~ love you to the moon too!
ReplyDeleteOh great....I would order some Rose Geranium Perfume if she cared to try and get the formula right. I always loved Avon's fragrance but decades ago they ceased selling that kind.
ReplyDeleteI love how you spend time together. Memories being made that'll last a life time.
What precious times you've provided Marydon! Times your granddaughter will treasure always!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful she wants to use her creativity. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was her age and I will always remember that moment. You did GOOD Marydon.Hugs
ReplyDeleteG
Hi Marydon,
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling your grand is and so very talented with the needle and thread. She must take right after her grandmother in heaven. Better yet, the memories you are making together will be treasures for your both in the years to come. Love the below post too with Ansel and his grandpa in the workshop. Precious memories!!
Have a wonderful weekend my friend. Working on the project boxes. Not done yet. I'll be in touch.
XOXO Celestina Marie
She looks like a pro!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for her to have YOU!
Melinda
How dear is your Tatiana and very skilled at sewing too. I imagine she does well whatever she puts her mind to. Sweet :)
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this. I love it when our kids tap into their talents and blessings like this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful teacher she has. :)
Tatiana is only 9? Did I read that correctly? Oh my Marydon...if that's correct you better load the gun now. That child is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy mother tried to teach me to sew too, to no avail, however my daughter picked it up toote-suite, and she even designs clothes. Oh well. I guess it skips a generation.
Kathie
Hi Marydon, Isn't it amazing how the little ones catch on so very fast? Thank you for sharing your pictures of Tatiana. They just grow up to fast. Have a great weekend. Your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool.
ReplyDeleteNow she'll never believe you again, that you can't sew.
What a great memory for you both!
This is my first visit here. I disovered you while visiting Sheri at Red Rose Alley. How sweet to take the time to teach your grandaughter how to sew. To encourage creativity is such a gift to give, time and patience too.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote about faith on your sidebar. This is so true! So many people profess religion how much they love their savior but are not kind to their neighbor. I believe in attraction rather than promotion. People are attracted to the real deal, kind, compassionate souls.
~Sandy
A young creative heart is a good heart! :)
ReplyDeleteI posted my love is...very early today! Come visit when you can!
Those grands are gorgeous!
