There was this handsome lad who lived about 2 miles from this ...
little cutie pie. His Mother used to work for a lady down the street from this wee pinky. Occasionally we kids would play with him & his 2 brothers. Over the years their paths crossed many times. A picture has been found of them both at a downtown festival riding ponies, one in front of the other. Then in high school her best friend dated his best friend; often trying to get her to double date. She would walk past the grocery store where he worked & look at him ... nope!, absolutely not interested & off she'd go ... this occurred many times.
Then he graduated from high school & enlisted in the USNavy as an electronics technician.
A couple years later she graduated & went to work for the State of WA. Her friend's sister got married to 'handsome lad's' brother. His brother went into the USNavy, so 'cutie pie' & her friend's twin sister lived together. Friend's twin sister introduced her to the in-law family. While paling around with 'handsome lad's' older brother they stopped at his parents house one eve ... and there was 'handsome lad' sitting on the couch, just discharged from USN. While they sat next to each other on the couch, 'handsome lad' leaned over & quietly asked 'would you like to go to a Ham Radio Club meeting with me on Friday?' Okie-dokie, she asked the time wondering what the heck kind of a club this was. On the way home that night he asked her to marry him. Yup! he sure did. Two weeks later they were engaged ... AND ... two weeks later
on a Friday night Harold & Marydon were united in marriage. He reenlisted in the USN & whisked his new bride off to California to begin their new lives together. It is quite an interesting round about way that they got together ... but oh, the fun & laughter telling this story. Now you must know that not one single family member was happy nor blessing this union, parents nor siblings (religion & short 'courtship').
In our day PINK was not a wedding color. I held my ground after being deprived of that luscious color all my life & had my PINK flowers, cake & topper. Mother was not happy about this. My gown was 25# of slipper satin, borrowed from a lady that had my Mother do some of the work on the gown for her daughter. Mother made the veil.
This week we celebrate our wedding anniversary of many years ago. I give deep gratitude to my precious dilove Cat & son Emery for the lovely 50th anniversary SURPRISE dinner party they had for us. It was absolutely wonderful.
