~ Hop On, C'mon, Let's Go ... Pink Saturday ~
Waayyy back when, we used to have tricycle races all up & down the sidewalks. Oh, my! The heated attempts to get to the end of the block first. Peeling out, burning rubber ... chuckle!
Or, when we would build racer cars out of wood, cardboard & old wheels & race madly up & down the street ... someone standing guard on the corners so the cars would slow down ...
We would have roller skate races around the block. WHEW! what a sweat we'd work up.
Or, just running up & down the sidewalk to see who was the fastest. Totally out of breath & a side ache!
Please join Miss Beverly, our wonderful hostess, & all the other pinkies @
http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/ for PINK SATURDAY.
The countless hours of blowing bubbles, chasing them all around the yard ... the beautiful rainbow colors reflecting thru each bubble.
All that wonderful fresh air, fabulous exercise ... & all that boundless energy ... oh, pul-eez!, tell me where it all went.
Think I am going to lie on the cool green grass & watch the clouds pass by ... surely there is something I missed in all that youthful hubbub ... did you?
Have a beautiful day filled with your memories of 'good ol' days' summer fun.

I love memories of childhood! I watch the little ones riding tricycles and bikes in the driveway:) and it triggers so many sweet memories!
ReplyDeleteBoundless energy... Where did it all go for me too?
Have a blessed day my friend, let's enjoy it totally! HUGS!
Wasn't life wonderful when all we had to worry about is making it home in time for supper! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
ReplyDeleteHappy memories Marydon. Doesnt take much to bring me right back to my childhood, thanks. We sure are young at heart sweet Marydon.
ReplyDeleteI remember those days--skinned knees and elbows were part of this too. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch good memories.
Thanks for the nice comment you left at Dreaming!
Melinda
Thanks for the memories...what a very cute graphic.....blessings
ReplyDeleteHappy pink Saturday to you! Hope you two are feeling well.
ReplyDeleteMy son and DIL are coming today with the baby and I am so excited.
I had no playmates when I was growing up. Perhaps that is why I like being alone now. So, there were no races around the block, or bikes or trykes.. I played paperdolls or held school for my dolls (I loved being the teacher). So, I envy all those wild and sweaty fun memories you have.
ReplyDeleteWow, you do stir-up a lot of good memories! Wasn't life grand back then? Sometimes, I find myself daydream about wonderful times in my childhood. How sad I feel for those who cannot or do not remember theirs'. Have a happy Pink Saturday. Luv
ReplyDeleteYou've brought back a lot of warm and fuzzy memories for me! I LOVED roller skates...I slept in them!! oh...sleeping in makeshift tents was another fun summer treat! And catching fireflies...:-)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Hi Marydon! I fondly remember summer days just like the ones you remember. Thanks for making me feel like a carefree kid again!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
Hey Marydon - this is so cute - I loved my tricycle growing up. I had the one with a bigger front wheel. I laughed when I saw your post - I have a fabulous tricycle on my PS post today, too. Have a wonderful weekend. xoxo Nancy
ReplyDeleteWhat nice memories you evoked! An all that exercise! Happy Pink Saturday, ladies!
ReplyDeleteLOVE taking time to enjoy the small pleasures of summer... not too often I get to do it now with a two year old( almost three) but today we blew bubbles!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love childhood memories, Marydon...Mine seem to all be at the beach!!! And roller skating and going on the swings--so fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday, my friend.
Love,
Cindy
Oh, how I remember all the fun activities we did as a kid. We used to build dirt forts in the fields behind my house and stayed out all day until it was time for dinner. What glorious days! Have a nice weekend Marydon.

Oh, the fun we used to have! Racing in everything! Wanting to be the fastest, go the fastest and I so remember the side aches! Bubbles were one of our favorite things, too. The cats love them! Always have a bottle on hand.
ReplyDeleteI was so sorry to read about your church and the lightening! He spared the houses where His people were sleeping...and this will so bring you all together again. He is working here, you know.
Hugs- Tete
Been there and did all this.
ReplyDeleteOh yes....
ReplyDeletethose were wonderful years.
Have a pinkishly beautiful weekend.
Oh what wonderful memories Marydon, Wasn't life grand way back when. I had skinned knees my whole chilhood I do believe. Thank you for the wonderful memories...Susie
ReplyDeletecute images - good memories...happy to say my youngest, who is ten, LOVES blowing bubbles still, but then again, it's something we never really grow out of... the simple joy of forming those endless transparent spheres of iridescent rainbows!
ReplyDeleteI love memories like that.
ReplyDeleteToday I watched my kids play and took pictures of them and the birds.
Happy Pink Saturday!
Hugs,
Dee
I did a lot of those same things as a child. Yes, there are lots of great summer memories!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I want to go back and grow up again but I would sure love the energy that comes with it!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a weekend that includes lying in the grass!
Happy Pink Saturday!
Yes, love reminiscing about summers of childhood-we lived out of doors, hated to go in and sometimes got to catch lightening bugs (fire flies) in a jar after dark....those were the days!
ReplyDeleteI still do lots of bubbles, and occasionally, we'll throw a blanket on the grass or just lay on the grass and watch clouds! But the energy to race around like I did as a child...Whooa, thats just a faded memory! I watch my tireless Grandchildren, and need a nap, just from just watching them play with all their endless energy! :)I looove looking at life through their eyes...they're so full of wonderment and joy! Be a sweetie,

I love these memories! It looks like mine go back to the same time period!! A much simpler time then than now - and I think more fun for little ones.
ReplyDeleteWhere did the time go?
Barb
Oh my goodness Marydon, I remember my tricyle and skates...And the endless hours of fun my sisters and I use to have. Summer, back then seemed endless too...What happened? :-) Have a wonderful weekend my dear friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Kisses,
♥Ana
If we could only bottle all that energy and use as need be. Wonderful post:)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am visiting early for PS.
Your music choice is very touching. Reminds me of growing up...
Graciously,
monah
Oh Sis...
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday and what a beautiful look back and share this evening.
I LOVE this post. I remember racing about and peeling out on my bicycle. I had a fast bike, my brother actually took it apart trying to figure out why mine went faster than his, never once realizing it was the one peddaling that made all the difference. Ha! Ha! Ha!
Bubbles, yes bubbles were so much fun. I loved seeing who's would rise the highest or be the biggest of all. What fun those times were.
Kids today are not amused as much as we were. We never seemed to notice the heat back then, left after breakfast and were told to be home in time for supper. We went from house to house, all the neighbor kids. Such fun.
Thank you for the beautiful memory this evening. I so enjoyed myself. I am exhausted from peddaling though and find I need to take a break.
Have a gorgeous day tomorrow. I love you and miss you horribly. All my love, Your Lil Sis, Sherry
I just love that storybook image - so retro! This week, my contribution is a desktop screensaver calendar. Happy Pink Saturday from the UK!
ReplyDeleteHi sweet Marydon, gentle reminders of a childhoo past..we did all of those things.kids today do not have that wonderful simple life, and its's shame! thank you for sharing!

Oh how I would love to have energy now like I had back then! Lovely memories, Marydon. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI remember those days. Ahhh, the energy they have, I wish I had some of that now. LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Pink Saturday and a blessed week.

When I was a kid, we were the only people on the block with a concrete driveway. It was a long one too. As a result, the whole neighborhood was riding their bikes on it - looked the Indy 500!
ReplyDeleteoh fun summer memories!
ReplyDeletemy best memory is when we lived in Nevada, I was maybe 6 yrs old, we had two peach trees in the yard and you'd get out of the pool (we were lucky enough to have a pool but they are not uncommon in Nevada) and go get a peach right off the tree, it would be hot from the sun and the juice would dribble all over you and then we'd hop back into the pool to cool off!
that was the best.
Hi Marydon! HPS. Great memories. Our bikes were 'horses'. Alas Rollerskaing took on a whole different turn...we have concrete steets and sidewalks...rolling every few feet was a jumping contest more than speed. And, the image of getting down on the ground and looking up at the clouds today paralyzes me with fear with the knees and back I ended up with from those carefree, energetic, childhood...how do I get back up?
ReplyDeleteAin't it the truth? where DID that energy go?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories! Happy Pink Saturday.
Oh wow..You just took me back to my young childhood! Only we lived on a one-block dead end street, so we hardly had to watch for cars! Thanks for the lovely memories!
ReplyDeleteHello Marydon....Such sweet memories....I would love to lie in the grass and watch the clouds float by....I might not be able to get back up though! hehehehe!
ReplyDeleteWonderful nostalgic post!

Happy Pink Saturday! I was traveling by "4's" on the pink links and saw your name on a comment somewhere - figured I'd get by soon - you beat me to my blog! Did you race? :) Oh, you're right, just about the time you mentioned where'd the exuberance of youth go, I was thinking the same thing. You know, those were fun things. Dodgeball. Softball. Hide-n-seek. Freezetag. Outdoors. Oh, it's been replaced by virtual world! But, it's a fun world too! In it's own way! Enjoyed your post! Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and Love, Jenn
ReplyDeleteHello my friend!
ReplyDeleteLovely to think about the "good old days" and how much simpler life was then. So wonderful!
And thank you for the rosette tutorial!! I still haven't done it! But I promise I will!!
Thank you again!
HPS!!

ReplyDeleteI saw a piece on the news today about big wheels! They were one of the safest toys ever! Funny how they are no longer made! You brought back some terrific childhood memories. I crashed my tricycle into my friend Lynette at age 3! 54 years later we are still buddies! HPS Love you! Anne
ReplyDeleteRight you are, we did have wonderful childhoods full of energy. Great memories for us now. Earlier today I read a question someone posted on facebook that so speaks to the opposite of your wonderful post. The question, should children have a facebook account. My answer was NO in bold.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't you remember there were very few overweight children when we were growing up?
ReplyDeleteMust have been all that energy we spent so freely.
Life was good.
