(This rose has a hint of pink & blue combined, it is awesome)
June @ Laughing with Angels a few short weeks ago, wrote an awesome story of her life & blessings of her son. It moved me beyond words, the tears flowed. If you haven't read it, do so, it is worth every loving heartfelt word she shared. Love you, June.
~~Here is another fabulous Pink Saturday story ~~ Thank you Miss Beverly ~
Having four visiting family members, my wife was very busy, so I offered to go to the store for her to get some needed items, which included light bulbs, paper towels, trash bags, detergent and Clorox. So off I went.
I scurried around the store, gathered up my goodies and headed for the checkout counter, only to be blocked in the narrow aisle by a young man who appeared to be about sixteen-years-old. I wasn't in a hurry, so I patiently waited for the boy to realize that I was there. This was when he waved his hands excitedly in the air and declared in a loud voice, "Mommy, I'm over here."
It was obvious now, he was mentally challenged and also startled as he turned and saw me standing so close to him, waiting to squeeze by. His eyes widened and surprise exploded on his face as I said, "Hey Buddy, what's your name?"
"My name is Denny and I'm shopping with my mother," he responded proudly.
"Wow," I said, "that's a cool name; I wish my name was Denny, but my name is Steve."
"Steve, like Stevarino?" he asked. "Yes," I answered. "How old are you Denny?"
"How old am I now, Mommy?" he asked his mother as she slowly came over from the next aisle.
"You're fifteen-years-old Denny; now be a good boy and let the man pass by."
I acknowledged her and continued to talk to Denny for several more minutes about summer, bicycles and school. I watched his brown eyes dance with excitement, because he was the center of someone's attention. He then abruptly turned and headed toward the toy section.
Denny's mom had a puzzled look on her face and thanked me for taking the time to talk with her son. She told me that most people wouldn't even look at him, much less talk to him.
I told her that it was my pleasure and then I said something I have no idea where it came from, other than by the prompting of the Holy Spirit. I told her that there are plenty of red, yellow, and pink roses in God's Garden; however, "Blue Roses" are very rare and should be appreciated for their beauty and distinctiveness. You see, Denny is a Blue Rose and if someone doesn't stop and smell that rose with their heart and touch that rose with their kindness, then they've missed a blessing from God.
She was silent for a second, then with a tear in her eye she asked, "Who are you?"
Without thinking I said,
"Oh, I'm probably just a dandelion, but I sure love living in God's garden."
She reached out, squeezed my hand and said,
"God bless you!" and then I had tears in my eyes.
May I suggest, the next time you see a BLUE ROSE, don't turn your head and walk off. Take the time to smile and say Hello. Why? Because, by the grace of GOD, this mother or father could be you. This could be your child, grandchild, niece or nephew. What a difference a moment can mean to that person or their family.

Hello sweet,
ReplyDeleteI was so thankful when you sent this beautiful story to me weeks ago. Everytime I read it I can't get all the way through without just sobbing. I tried to read it to Dale, but couldn't get all the way through, so he read it himself. Thank you for the link to my post about life with Landon. It was so sweet of you to do. I think I wrote it just so you could share this beautiful story with me. God knows, and there are no coincidences.
I love you Marydon and your sweet, sweet heart.
Love from here,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment about Sarah's photographs. :) You're always so sweet and thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteI love what you've shared here - a beautiful story, beautiful thoughts, and a lovely rose indeed.
I hope you have a marvelously-blessed weekend as well.
Love, Linda
What a wonderful and touching story. You did a wonderful blessing to that young man and his mom. His mother is correct, that others tend to shy away from this type situation. They are human just like this rest of us, just maybe a little different. If we look deep enough into our lives, we probably have a bigger problem than he does.
ReplyDeleteVery, very good, my dear. As a mother, a sister and an aunt of Blue Roses, thank you.
ReplyDeleteHugs- Tete
BEAUTIFUL I will send this to my friend Wendy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I visited you today. I loved this story...thank you for sharing, and thanks for stopping by CITexas gal. I knew you'd enjoy my Family History story.

ReplyDeleteoh, Marydon! This story is so awesome! You did good. I hope that I am more conscious of blue roses in my garden now and not in such a hurry that I miss them.

Beautiful, touching story...it brought tears to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI think back to about 10 years ago. Our family moved to a new area, and as we struggled to make friends in our neighborhood, we found that only one family was really open to us. Because we didn't go to a particular church, no one wanted their kids to play with ours. Only one family did...and although they went to the same church as everyone else, they let their kids play with ours. You see, their daughter has Asbergers', and the other kids didn't want to be around her. My kids didn't care. They liked her just fine. So, my kids' only friends in that neighborhood were the ones no one else wanted. And I am more than okay with that.
Have a great day.
Love,
Patti

Beautiful rose & story! Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteOh what a sweet story! It reminds of a neighbor boy from about 30+ years ago! He lived across the street from us, his name is Eric! My EX-husband called him Eric-P-Coaltrain and took up lots of time with him! His mother was awesome and got him extra schooling to help him live a normal life. I still see him occasionally working at Kroger and he always smiles and remembers me! A BLUE ROSE is surely special! Have a blessed weekend! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful and wonderful heartfelt story. I have taught my boys to be kind to others and they have always been nice to others and don't look away if someone is different. It makes me so proud when they start up a conversations with them. Life is to short not to.

Dear Marydon.
ReplyDeleteThis is a precious story and one that will linger in the heart to thing about over and over again.
Thank you for sharing this today and for sharing the meaning through the Blue Rose. As the tears flow, I am reminded how wonderful life is when we take the time to see the little blessings along the way.
Love you, Celestina Marie
I was over on Rinky Rimes - starting off away from my method of viewing Pinks. Saw your comment there, followed you over here, staying off my method of following pinks for the moment. (I follow based on the last digit of my own link number, so I'm following 3's ... or supposed to be, haven't started YET. I'm so glad I followed this way. I am blessed. Thank you. I went over to June's by the link you gave. And, blessed again.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Hugs, Jenn
What a beautiful and touching story that is! I read June's when she posted it and it was also soooo very touching:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comment:)
Dear Marydon, this story is so sweet and it sends the best message to all of us. You are a blessing to the blog world. I will remember this believe me and I pray that I can show kindness to a 'blue rose' There are many who need kindness and if there was more of it the world would be a better place.
ReplyDeleteLove, Jeanne
what a beautiful post, it brings tears to my eyes, thank you for sharing and Denny is indeed a blue rose.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Susan
This brought a tear to my eye! I worked with mentally handicapped children for thirty years and it was the rare occasion that adults who were not familiar with them would speak. Their faces would always light up at the attention when someone like you would take the time to acknowledge them. God Bless you.
ReplyDeleteThe best story ever! Thank you so very much for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your weekend!
Big Hugs,
Denise
What wonderful story. And the quotes, dear Marydon! Thanks for sharing them with us. I will write the quotations down on my journal, to have a look at them every now and then.
