Ansel's school had a program called "Wax Museum" where the children picked someone they admired & gave a presentation taking on that persons history. Ansel choose Abraham Lincoln because his (Poppy's) gr-gr-gr-grandfather served in the Civil War under Gen. Lee & was the minister with Gen. Lee at the surrender at Appomatox. Ansel's 5 minute speech on Lincoln's achievements was completely from memory, which amazed me for a 9 yr. old ... not once having to look at a note & mere brief hesitation. We are so proud of Ansel for such a masterpiece presentation.
One day prior to this Ansel was so intent when he asked me how many great grandfather's his was "... one, two or ... Mimi" as he counted on his fingers 'right, Mimi?' "Yes, 3 greats, Ansel", I assured him.
Ansel in a moment of thought before starting his eloquent presentation ... (we had taken the children to Gettysburg a few weeks ago to show them where their gr-gr-gr-grandfather was captured ((nr McDonald's property)) before he was shipped off to that horrible Elmira, NY, P.O.W. camp. They were totally engrossed in this history).
If you could only know how Poppy was shining from this moment ... Ansel, he is so PROUD! of you.
The children would not speak until we PUSHED THE BLUE BUTTON to 'turn them on'. A couple of the children were precious, with tight lips, finally pointing to the button ... tickled me.
I visited several of the children, they were adorable ... Annie Oakley, Rosa Parks, Audubon, historians, scientists, & so on. I thanked each child as I shook their hands telling them how beautiful a presentation they each gave.
Ansel & his Mimi (me) ... oh, how proud I was popping my buttons right & left!
Ansel & our son, his father, Emery just prior to his graduating to a cub scout.
Ansel after his graduation ...
What a cutie!
