Thank you Oliver, I love it!
~~~ Here Kitty, Kitty ~~~
I was soooo excited when I found these kitty flour/sugar sacks. So adorable! I remember when my Mother went to the grocery store & they had fabrics on a 'roll', you picked your fabric design, they sewed it right there, filled it w/whatever she was buying ... sugar, flour, etc., then stitched it closed. We kids had fun taking the stitching apart when we got home. This is the first 'kitty' I've ever had.
Feedsack Pretty * What To Do w/String
I just learned from an elderly lady that they saved every strand of the string/thread that held the 'sacks together & crocheted with it, making things for the house. I remember Mother & G'ma Maggie saving huge balls of string, I wonder if this was what they were using. Thrifty! Who would have thought.
Enchanted Makeovers
Scotty, Kitty, Down @ Farm, ABCs
Dancing jigs this month! What a find this is ... highly sought after novelty feedsack. There were approx. 42 companies that made feedsack cloth aka chicken linen. We got over 100 in again today. Most we've ever had arrive in a mn. before. You can view them on our website.
Kitty, Teddy, Bunny, Squirrel Feedsack
Kitty, Teddy, Bunny, Squirrel Feedsack ~ What a coup! (3) fantastic finds all in one day & in perfect condition. These are supposedly around 1940s ... I AM SO EXCITED!!! The feedsacks replaced barrels for shipping farm & food items. Originally feedsacks were plain linen colored w/advertising in ink the company's logo & product. Approximately c. 1925 colored feedsacks came into play, still stamped in ink the advertising. I found it very interesting that the manuf. even created patterns for dolls, animals & quilt blocks onto the 'sacks ... I found (2) most recently.
Hi Marydon. Reading this made me long for those good old days. Unfortunately I'm afraid they are gone forever. Thank you for the nice comment you made on my blog.
Marydon- What a great post. I feel a lot like he does! I think sometimes this world is so fast-paced and we have forgotten how to parent children..and forgotten that children NEED to be parented. Lovely, moving post- Diana
I absolutely love this! I long for those days when we could stay at home and be wives and mothers. But those days are long gone. Now it is the women that are making the living while the men stay at home in many instances. So sad that our country has given up these values. I love America and I love being a woman.
Hi Marydon, I hope things are going well with you and Harold. I liked your post today and definitely agree with it. Unfortunately our world has changed and parts of it not for the better.
