Just a quiet day to take a tour with us on our trip to Holland, so grab a cup of tea, & join me.
(Please lift Sherry in prayer as she is still having issues with this pneumonia ~ http://countrywingsinphoenix.blogspot.com/)
It is the most beautiful country that continues to beckon us back for a 4th time. We have been throughout the entire country ... my paternal ancestors, the Middaugh's (Middag is the original spelling) came over in the mid-1600's on the De Bever arriving in New York, eventually moving into NJ & PA before moving into OH & then to MO. Our ancestor was one of the original petitioners to form the city of Brooklyn. Another ancestor & his cousin were the only people hung as Tory spies during the American Revolution.
The canals are absolutely breathtaking with gigantic ships travelling right thru the middle of towns.
Holland is one of the cleanest countries we have visited ... spit shine everywhere. You can see elderly & young alike pedaling their bikes everywhere. The countryside is so rich in greens, neatly groomed.
The windmills are beyond description ... I love just viewing them.
One of our family cemeteries.
Harold peering out ...
A bridge lifting to accommodate passage of a boat or ship.
The waterways are full of boats & ships ...
The homes are nestled along the waterways ...
At dusk ...
Awesome settings like this everywhere in this picturesque country...
Stately against the horizon ...
A beautiful entry into a village ...
A lone fisherman ...
So much beauty Marydon. Thank you so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteMy prayers are being lifted daily for Sherry.......
Have a Great Day!!

That must have been so awesome Marydon! I loved seeing the pics! My Maternal Grandmother was Dutch and she was always a cleaning machine. I guess it's true about the cleanliness, but I don't think I got enough of her Dutch genes.
ReplyDeleteI hope to visit their someday.
Cindy
Beautiful....and I can understand just WHY you return over and over. Not only ancestors galore, but hey...the countryside is just absolutely gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful blues in these photos. The waterways, the sky.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely looks like a wonderful journey and sounds like a great heritage.

Oooh, thank you. What a lovely trip! We have been to Amsterdam twice, but have not yet had the time to venture out to the countryside and villages. Next time, for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe are kindred spirits in some ways. This love of Holland is definitely one of them.
Thanks for the escape. :)
Fantastic pictures and family history. The windmills are magical, no wonder there are so many stories about them. My GreatGreat Grandfather Elisha was of Black Dutch descent. Thanks for your interest in my Family History. I appreciate your visits and comments to CollectInTexas Gal. I've really enjoyed seeing your trip with Sherry, and am praying for her speedy recovery. Bless her heart.
ReplyDeleteyou should visit the south of Holland. it's so different but also very beautiful.

Nynke ~ We have been all over Holland, top to bottom, side to side. Maastricht & Delft are my favorite cities. We have spent in total 2 months there. The only season we have missed in spring with the tulips, the daffodils were gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYour country is absolutely breathtaking & all should be afforded the opportunity to visit, the people are so warm & welcoming.

ReplyDeleteOver at the Pink Rose Cottage, you mentioned that you used "that soak stuff" to get your vintage linens clean. I was hoping you woudn't mind sharing what that "stuff" was......as I am looking for something for my old linens. Many thanks, and hugs, Kathleen

ReplyDeleteHi Marydon,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the wonderful pictures of Holland. DH and I both have a drop of Dutch blood from our ancestors back in the 16 hundreds. We really want to go there when he retires for a visit.
Have a wonderful Mother's Day Weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog~
Oh Marydon, I sure enjoyed your Holland photos. It looks like a beautiful countryside. What a blessing for you to get to visit where your ancestors started from and even view the family cemetery.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that they actually still use thatched roofs. I'd like to know exactly what the materials are in a thatched roof?? I would love to visit Holland just to be able to see those wonderful windmills.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Fantastic photos! I was born in Holland and love to go back to visit! Unfortunately I did not inherit the 'clean' genes! Thanks for sharing your pics. I feel as if I have been on a holiday.
