During our beautiful snow storm of an unexpected 6" a couple days ago, this gorgeous woodpecker popped by for a visit. I was so excited to finally get a picture of him. More snow arrives this afternoon & more on Fri/Sat. Whoppee! The one thing that has been missed this year ... we have seen NOT ONE snowman in a yard or field this year.
Love your little birdies, Marydon. I'm so glad you are feeding them in this horrible weather. I think your woodpecker is a Downy.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, we missed the ice that was supposed to come through last night. We just had RAIN --and the temp. stayed about 34 degrees.
Hugs,
Betsy
Oooh, I LOVE your little male Downy Woodpecker!!! Aren't they just adorable to watch! xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteJust dropping by to say HI, chickee!

They're so sweet! We haven't had any snow, but the cardinals have been visiting our feeders every day. It's so much fun to sit and watch them.
ReplyDeleteWoodpeckers are such cool birds. So full of energy!
ReplyDeleteEarly wishes for a Happy Valentine's Day!

I love seeing birds in winter. We don't have a snowman either. My kids are not into the whole snow experience like I was. They are like little bears and will emerge from hibernation in the spring.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Marydon,
ReplyDeleteI love your woodpecker. I so enjoy seeing the birds in the wintertime. We don't get too many around here this time of year but the friendly little chickadees still stop by for their daily feed at our feeder outside the front window. Have a beautiful day.
Blessings,
Sandi
Great pictures of the woodpeckers! Glad you enjoy the snow too. I always feel that if it has to be winter, I'd rather look at snow than brown grass!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Carol
Hi Marydon! What beautiful little birds. It' just makes my heart sing looking at them.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me and now I'm going to look at your giveaway!

We do not have snowmen/women (lol) but the grand-kids made 2 giant robots being chased by a larger chicken...LOL...ah the imagination!
Love your woodpecker shots!!
Such beautiful birds, I love the red touch on their heads!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Margaret B
I am a bird watcher and could sit and watch them for hours. Love it that you feed them in this winter weather. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid snowmen have become obsolete. The kids are all inside playing Wii. They may be getting some exercise but it's not the same anymore!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
well the ground hog saw his shadow..6 more weeks of winter...great photos...how are you doing???
ReplyDeleteBird feeders are a two-way blessing.... you, the feeder, is blessed by the visiting birds; and the visiting birds are blessed by eating what's in the bird feeder.
ReplyDeleteI love to watch birds and hear them sing.... looking forward to Spring!
You sure are getting a lot of snow in your area; what a blessing to have a nice, warm home to be comfortable in. Enjoy your day and be blessed, dear one.
These are excellent photos, and woodpeckers are special favorite birds to me. What, no snowmen! Can you organize a snowman making crew?
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures and I can honestly say I haven't seen too many real wood peckers! I love hearing them and on occasion wonder just where they are!
ReplyDeleteHeading to your giveaway page now!
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
I sure wanted to get out and do a snowman, but did'nt.lol

Our cardinals are usually at the feeder year-round but I've not seen them in weeks. I"m worried about them. I'm glad you got a picture of your feathered friends, though.
ReplyDeleteI adore bird watching!! Haven't seen any woodpeckers like that around our house this winter, but I spied a lovely cardinal in the shrub outside my daughter's bedroom window the other morning and I got a kick out of watching him eat seeds from within the shrub.
ReplyDeleteAll of our snow is presently gone except for the shady patches, and we're enjoying some unseasonably warmer weather this week.
Funny you mention the snowman though, because over the holidays, after a bigger snow, I was coming into my work in the morning, and there on the pedestal alongside the entrance to our College, was a little snow person. It made me laugh.
Daughter and I used to build snowmen every winter, but alas, she's 14 now and has "better" things to do.
Kind regards,
Linda
I actually saw some sunshine today at 2:30 p.m.! First spot of sun in six days!!! No woodpeckers sighted this winter, but the mockingbirds are definately making nests in the bush they love every year. Phil or no Phil, I think Spring is on the southern horizon! Yea! I'm a "junker", and my sister and I rent a booth in an antique boutique. We scour estate sales, thrift stores, and secret places for our treasures! Many times I blog about my finds.

Ohhhh... ahhhh! Yes, you know how I feel about birds! Sometimes I think I must have been a bird in another life... ;) Lovely lovely!... SENDING sunshine your way, my sweet blogging friend!

ReplyDeleteFun to see a woodpecker at the feeder. I wonder why the kids haven't been out building snowpeople?
ReplyDeleteI love watching the birds. How fun to see a woodpecker at the feeder...I imagine they are very thankful for your feeder..it must be so hard for them during the winter with all the snow...ugs, Linda

Sweet Marydon..love both the birds and the snow. Didn't get a flake here in Bonaire this year. Last year we all went wild when only 2 inches fell. People were in the streets taking pictures..trying to build baby-snowmen out of nearly nothing. It was a riot. Ha ha
ReplyDeleteI enjoy so much popping over for a visit with you. Take care sweet lady, Terri
No snowman? No snow forts? Where are all the kids? Hope that woodpecker dosen't decide to move into your eves...!
