This is heart warming
& praise worthy.
IF you haven't seen this, it is a must.
Pray for our TROOPS, we just lost a young Marine locally.

Listen to this awesome song at this link, so fitting!
This statue currently stands outside the
Iraqi palace, now home to the 4th Infantry
division. It will eventually be shipped home
and put in the memorial museum in Fort Hood ,
TX.
The statue was created by an Iraqi artist named
Kalat, who for years was forced by
Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds
of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad .
Kalat was so grateful for the Americans liberation
of his country; he melted 3 of the heads of the
fallen Saddam and made the statue as a memorial
to the American soldiers and their fallen warriors.
Kalat worked on this memorial night and day for
several months. To the left of the kneeling soldier
is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he
mourns the loss of his comrade in arms.
Such a poignant statue. I, being a mother of a USMC Marine, and a sister to a late Marine...I feel for them all. The troops losing a comrade, the families, the country..it's so sad.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, endearing post.
That is so beautiful!!! When my husband was in Iraq 3 years ago he brought back many pictures of Saddam's mansion. After seeing those pictures and how beautiful everything is I'm sure this statue is stunning. Great post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a courageous man Kalat is. To be forced to work for a horrible human as Saddam was but then to use the gift that God gave him and touch so many of us with his beautiful work. This has truly given me the chills. I am sorry for the loss of the marine in your town. I pray for his family and their courage to understand God's plan for their son.
ReplyDeleteas a veteran and a member of a military family....this is so utterly special!
ReplyDeletethank you so very much for this!

Good Morning Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteHow very beautiful is this statue. It gives you goose bumps just to look at it. I have never seen this statute or heard the story behind it. I love it, and how beautiful of this wonderful artist to design and make this for our wonderful country. (We have given our lives for their country.) I will be happy to see this on American soil where one day, maybe I will have the pleasure of seeing its true beauty with my own eyes.
As always you touch my heart and get my day going. I love you sweetie. Have a beautiful day. Country hugs and so much love...Sherry/Cherry Jelly
