A serene walk as we meander up & down beautiful Charleston, SC streets ... come with me ...
Thank you Miss Beverly, our wonderful hostess for Pink Saturday ... please join all the other lovely ladies @
The beautifully sweeping stair entries of beautifully
groomed homes invite you to visit ...
magnificent architecture ...
peeking in at the wonderful courtyards ...
and babbling fountains ...
the elegant verandas ...
sweeping front porches to cool you in the soft
afternoon breeze ...
the shading palms gently swaying ...
warmly decorated entries ...
beautiful plants & powerful statues ...
the massive homes of yore, bustling with daily
life, the aromas of fresh baked bread & pies ...
the families gathering for the holiday
celebrations filling the homes with merriment
as they do today ...
standing on the balconies waving to the ships passing by ...
a child peering from the windows on a chilly day ...
lovers sitting on the rock garden walls in the cool of a spring romantic eve ...
little children merrily playing 'hoops' in the yard ...
can you picture the ladies in their long gowns bustling about serving tea on the front porches
in the cool of the afternoons ...
late evening picnics beneath the shade of trees on a hot summer's eve ...
the huge warm gatherings of families for holidays, baptisms, marriages & memorials ...
the lush gardens surrounding each home ...
the moments of prayer beneath the
heavenly skies in the serenity of the garden ...
watching the troops as they arrived to impose battle in the Civil War ...
Oops! ... this fella was so tickled when he pulled up this wee fish along the Battery ...
I love the widow's walk on these awesome homes, can you even imagine wearing black for a year, never leaving your home ...
the romance these people created in their property entries, gardens & homes is breathtaking ...
the pride they took in the construction of each home whether large or small ...
the greeting owl perched on the elegant balcony architecture, a powerful presence ...
I picture children playing on the porch in the heat of the day sipping fresh lemonade ....
dancing til the wee hours of the morn on a cold winter's night ...
a sweet soft blue floral from the garden ...
was it a rich plantation owner or politician or ship captain that owned this masterpiece home ...
tucked in the courtyard entry are many statues throughout the city ...
this city, as in Savannah will sweep you away in romance, beauty, serenity ...
as you enter into another 'world' & 'time' of the past meeting the present ...
Hubby and I are doing short visits to both Charleston and Savannah in January! We've not been either place before.
ReplyDeleteHi Marydon! Love your shots of Charleston. The first house has always been one of my favorite houses on the battery. Did you know that if the gate to a garden is left open, that is an invitation for those passing by to step inside the garden and walk around, take pictures if you like.
ReplyDeleteOnly one word Marydon. Magnificent!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful architecture!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a beautiful tribute to this southern city....wouldn't it be wonderful to be able live in one of these magnificent homes?
ReplyDeleteThanks so mudh sweet friend for taking us on this trip!
Love you,
Lynn
Simply breathtaking! thanks for sharing, Christie
ReplyDeleteSouth Carolina is a beautiful place. I went there as a child with my parents. As a kid all I remember is that it was hot and alot of bugs. HA! HA! I would love to go again and see all these wonderful places that you saw.

Good Afternoon Sweet Sis...
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this Pink Saturday share. You outdid yourself with the photos of such beauty. Charleston is a gorgeous city with such history. You took me on such a magical tour down memory lane. I love it. Yes my birth home of love.
Yes, I love that the owners will occasionally leave a gate open for passers by to feel welcome, and come in and share their garden magic, garden beauty and garden colors. So magical and homey this city is.
Thanks for the beautiful share today. I love it when you do. Your writing is so elegant. Have a gorgeous day sweetie. Many hugs and so much love, Your Lil Sis, Sherry
Now that I have seen your photos, I want to visit this city. The covered porches look very inviting, and they do demand some horses and carriages as transportation, to my mind. That would complete the beauty.
ReplyDeleteThis great city is sadly one that I have never had the chance to visit. I am in love with the south and why I never went is a mystery to me. It's gorgeous and I thank you for sharing it with us this week. You just have to love a pink lady. Happy Pink Saturday, Char

Thanks for your comment on my Pink Saturday post...I love your visits. To answer your question...No I don't live in San Antonio, but go there pretty often. My sister lives in NewBraunfels which is about 4 hours from San Angelo where I live. So when I visit her we usually run over to San Antonio. It's an amazing city with lots of history!

Marydon, when you get this post twice, you will know I accidentally posted for this post on the one below. LOL! Sorry! SO I copied that and pasted it here. It's late, and I'm very, very tired! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI really miss visiting Charleston (my sister lived there for many years), and I loved seeing all of your beautiful photographs of lovely homes. SO pretty!
I am not going to be on the Pink Saturday train this weekend due to things I have to do with Mr. Magpie, but I did want to stop by and thank you for your visit which, as always, was much appreciated.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend...
XO,
Sheila :-)

ReplyDeleteSherry
Marydon, bless your heart and thanks so much for visiting my blog tonight. I had been forgetting to visit and you sparked my memory and so I've been getting caught up on yours. I love the photos of all of the gorgeous homes that you've featured!
ReplyDeleteBut I must admit that it's your touching tribute to your fine son, Emery, along the right side, that is especially beautiful. First of all, I love that name - Emery, you might recall from my blog, was the dearest friend of my parents from our long-ago suburban neighborhood. He adored my sisters and I and left this earth just this year in his 90s. I still drive his car - Emery's car - that we bought from him when he couldn't drive anymore. Anyway - your tribute to your son is wonderful and it's a tribute to you as his Mom as well on the wonderful job you did raising him. Bless you and your wonderful family.
Hope you have a great weekend,
Linda :)
I have NEVER been to Charleston! I can't believe that as close as I live to that gorgeous city, I gotta make some plans! I really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful homes! Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures with me!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day my friend! HUGS!
Goodmorning Mary,
ReplyDeleteJust love the way you romance your way through Charleston - I too try to imagine the past...there's so much history in that town and several others. My neighbor worked in the state's archives and is full of stories of the past - he found Georgia's copy of the Declaration of Independence a couple of years back - tucked away in a book in the archive's storage -
Happy PInk Saturday!
Kathy
Marydon!!

So very beautiful! I adore old homes even though I have never lived in one. I must have in a past life!

Thank you for the birthday giggle. I have a few of the pin up pics in my house and got in trouble with a friend of my six year old due to him telling his mom about the "naked" lady pictures....hehehe!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a small child, my parents used to sit in rockers on our front porch and sing songs to us as we sat in their laps. Thanks for the memories, Marydon! I loved those homes you showed.

I love the big porches and tall ceilings of the old southern homes. These are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCharleston and Savannah are the two cities in the south I have always wanted to visit, and the French Quarter of New Orleans. I think I read too many romance novels in my formative years that took place in these glorious cities! Still, the desire to see them in person lingers. Thank you for the tour!
