Nell is thrilled when her grandmother Eleanor's boyfriend plans a double surprise ~ restoring the rose garden of her old Victorian house, & a marriage proposal. However, Oliver's romantic gestures are unexpectedly put on hold when a skeleton is unearthed in Eleanor's backyard. Police chief Jesse Dewalt begins an investigation & soon the town is buzzing with theories. Seeing this as a prime tourism opportunity for the upcoming celebration, the mayor schemes to link the corpse to town founder John Archer ~ who's believed to have practiced witchcraft. Some locals seem to know too much, especially wealthy & powerful Glad Warren, who suspects the body is the son of the late Grace Roemer, once a close friend of Eleanor.
For once, Nell vows to stay out of Jesse's work, instead focusing on organizing a historic quilt show as art of the festivities. When clues lead to questions about Elinor's relationship to the Roemer family, Nell is forced to intervene to try to uncover the truth. As the anniversary approaches, a chilling wave of vandalism strikes town hot spots, raising fears that witchcraft has returned, & revealing secrets that could change life in Archer's Rest forever.
