Peeking out the ice covered windows that Jack Frost had painted during the night, huge icicles would be dangling down from the roof, as I peered thru them in search of that blissful blanket of snow. More often than not, it was always disappointment. Sometimes we kids would lie there looking at the designs of the frost, creating stories for ourselves. Or, we would scrape our fingernails over the ice frozen window to create our own designs in the ice. Occasionally the icicles were several feet long so we kids would go out & knock them down to suck on ... OR ... we'd pretend the icicles were 'swords', just fun silly kid play.
The most beautiful thing was peering outside to the wonderful magical crystal winterland that decorated the bowing evergreens, draped the bing cherries & caressed the florals. I would be lost in another world of imagination ... what an exquisite sight to behold!
Imaginations were alive & vivid ... so little it took to make us happy or enjoy each day. We continued our wishes for snow, with each day we would pray ...

ReplyDeleteNever had icicles in So. Calif.!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of the blog-very pretty. Thanks for the update!

I too miss the icicles! We had huge ones in Alaska. They could be kids dangerous tho, when they came crashing down!

Lovely memories, Marydon. I liked snow a lot more when I was a kid than I do now. HA! I don't care for it much anymore myself. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful memories Marydon. I have never lived in snow country but I am fortunate to live about 90 miles from South Lake Tahoe. If I need my snow "fix" I just hop in my car and in no time I am there. It is so beautiful up there.

Beautiful memories Marydon.
ReplyDeleteThose are sweet memories Marydon. I used to sleep with my little dog, Bambi (Chihuahua-Toy Manchester mix). I grew up in Central Florida and used to dream of a lovely cold winter. That's one of many reasons I moved further north. :)
ReplyDeleteI am looking out my window right now at the icicles that are hanging from my window. It has been very cold here the last couple of days...I think winter has arrived! :)

I still like to watch the icicles grow, and I still look for snow every morning. Guess I'm just a kid at heart!
ReplyDeleteI love your stories of when you were little! Yes, we don't get much snow here. Last year was an exception, we had nearly 2 feet for a couple of weeks. It just would NOT melt. The roads were a mess. Then everything melted at once and flooding became an issue. Sometimes you just can't win, LOL!
ReplyDeleteMarydon!!! Oh yes! Those icicles were such fun...can't believe we used to suck on them but we did and never did get sick. And the designs of Jack Frost - I still love to look at them and wonder how they can be so fabulous, each one different and beautiful! Thanks for the memories today! Hugs, Coralie
ReplyDeleteHi Marydon,
