1965 Our first Christmas with our families after our return from 3 yrs. in Hawaii. This is at my Mother's home ... Harold's family lived 2 miles away so we did a lot of running back & forth for
the wee ones to bring delight to the G'pa & G'ma's.
Check out those chubby cheeks on my daughter, isn't she a cutie? And such handsome sons ... this was around midnight ... we always went to midnight Mass & then opened gifts & had a tip'o'the'hand with sweets.

The little rocking chair was mine when I was just about 1 yr. old ... check out that GORGEOUS BRAND NEW STATE OF THE ART TV, chuckle!
Anyone, remember those beauties?

****Does anyone remember back in 1969/70 era when EVERY TOY came out needing batteries ... & every thing we bought needed batteries ... & we had NOT ONE SINGLE BATTERY in the house & 3 VERY UNHAPPY children with a heap full of unworkable toys?! Oy! that was a sad day. Harold drove for a couple of hours to everywhere he could to try & find batteries, na-da!
Joshua (c. 1993) (& his Poppy) would say "this is the kind of Santa I'm looking for" ... chuckle! ... but.......................
Joshua sure didn't like THIS Santa, one bit! He was beet red screaming & contorting to get away from him!
Just a simple wish that 'CHRIST'mas be remembered & carried in your hearts to celebrate His wonderful redeeming birth ... on Christmas Day ... AND throughout every day of the year.
Love your walk down memory lane! I enjoy doing that with my blog too. So much fun even though sometimes it brings a lump to the throat.

ReplyDeleteSandy
so are you going to be deleting your other blog? Wondering which link to put in my blog log
What a great blog! I found you via Sandy's blog.
ReplyDeleteI keep a running list of gits wrapped & bought, then I put a capital B next to the item, so that remember to get batteries
Years ago, we learned the hard way....if it says, "some assembly required." We don't buy it. Back when the kids were toddlers, we bought a Mickey Mouse toyboy.bookshelf...some assembly required. We were up ALL night putting that thing together!
Great TV....much better than those TVs on steroids these days.
Oh, Marydon, this was a precious post! Loved seeing your babies through the years!
ReplyDeleteAgain, I want to thank you for the beautiful night light. I have it right here in the den in my crystal bar and it's just perfect! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Marydon,
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful, and yes I remember the toys needing batteries....that happened to me as a child once, but only once! Mom and Dad were sure to have them on habd after that! :)
I remember the TVs, the need for batteries, the black and white film for cameras - all of it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful of you to share your memories and help ;us to spark some of our own.
What a nice walk down memory lane. The pic in 1965 looks just like one I have of my kids at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI remember the long heavy wood cabinets that would hold this tiny black & white TV and if you were lucky it would have a record player in it too.
Happy Holidays!
Judy

ReplyDeleteI loved this memory walk with you Marydon.
ReplyDeleteSuch precious pictures! Every one with memories attached. I have a few of these too. Those years with our young families are such sweet memories now.
The Christmas without batteries made me so sad. I can just imagine how that day went down.
hugs
Love the family pictures. Your daughter looks like you and your son,his Dad! The old black and white photos are always so neat to see a well. None of my nieces or nephews ever liked Santa either, I think it's pretty cut and dried if they take a liking to him or not. Happy Holidays Marydon, have a wonderful weekend full of cheer!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun family photos! Yes, I do remember the battery craze! Happy Holidays! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteOh, don't you just love looking back at the old family photos? Just precious!
ReplyDeleteYour babies were adorable. Look at those sweet pink cheeks !! :) They grew into lovely adults :) I remember the bunny ears on the TV. And when we got 5 channels. It seemed like there was always something good on TV back then. Now there are hundreds of channels and nothing on ! lol !! :) Thanks for sharing your precious memories :)
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures! They remind me of the pictures my Mother has. Have a wonderful Christmas!
