THIS IS AWESOME, Enjoy - 14,500 ft.
Those of us NOT living in Tacoma , Washington or surrounding
areas will appreciate these pictures
Some of you who live in the Portland area may have seen this on Friday (?) it was so amazing,
people were pulling over on the freeway to take pictures.
Mt. Rainier puts on a show!
By Scott Sistek
Our little dry streak is about to come to an end.
But if you looked at Mt. Rainier today,
you would have known that already.
Take a look at some of these incredible clouds
captured over Mt. Rainier today.
Those are called "lenticular clouds" They're caused when the
winds are just right so when they flow over Mt. Rainier ,
the air gets pushed upward where it cools and
condenses into clouds.. Depending on the winds,
you can get some amazing clouds formations as we've
seen so far today. Here is more information on what causes
them from an earlier blog entry.
It's usually a sign of rain within 24 hours because typically
the moist flow that precedes a storm around here
is the perfect set up for these clouds.
Until you've been to the west coast & western side of this beautiful nation to view these majestic
mountains that just aren't here on the east coast,
you cannot imagine the beauty of them arising
into the horizon to greet you every single day.
This is Gig Harbor, a very lovely city on a hill with the beautiful waters below dressed in boats to enjoy. Very picturesque ...
Is this not AWESOME!
Such powerful pictures ...
In all her beauty ... God is the director!

Mid-Missouri has no mountains.
ReplyDeleteMid-Missouri has seldom, if ever, cloud formations such as this.
Call you tell I'm not from Mid-Missouri. I grew up in the west and southwest.
Thanks for these wonderful images.
Hugs,
Gerry

Thank you, thank you. I lived for eight years in the PNW, most of them within sight of Rainier.

Marydon, I cannot believe all the beauty that God has created for man to enjoy if he will just look up and to Him!!! This is an amazing sight.I have never seen clouds like this before. I have been blessed to see this Mt. and other mountains in the Pacific Northwest, and in my own Idaho, and yet I am always caught off guard by the beauty of them.
ReplyDeleteAs I return after a day of shopping in Twin Fall which is about 60 miles from my home and drive towards my own mountain home, I see them looming up in the distance welcoming me back to their safety. Oh gosh, I am grateful!!!
Thank you sweetheart, for another gorgeous post.
The music just added to the beauty of the post my dear.
hugs to you...
Simply Beautiful!!!!!

ReplyDeleteMicki
I have never seen anything like that! ♥
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous and I never heard anything about them! I guess I should watch the news a bit more! The mountains have been beautiful the last few days, including Mt. St Helens, along with the beautiful weather. The rain is due to arrive tomorrow. I afraid it will be sticking around for the next 8 months!
ReplyDeleteI miss that mountain and now I am homesick but the pictures were great. Some things you take for granted until you move away now I have lots of prarie to look at but no mountains:(
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for giving me a taste a home! I grew up in the Seattle area, and the views of Mt. Rainier is the thing I miss the the most (ok, and the salmon and crab, too).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics that brought back great memories! Thanks!
